A travel ban barring or restricting citizens of 19 countries from entering the US went into effect on June 9. The policy is part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce immigration into the US.
What is the ban?
Citizens of 12 countries, mostly in Africa and the Middle East, are no longer allowed to travel to the US. They are Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The ban also restricted access to the US from seven other nations. People from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela cannot enter the US permanently or get tourist or student visas (government permission to enter another country).
