From December 7–19, representatives from nearly 200 nations are gathering in Montreal, Canada, for a summit called COP15. Their goal is to develop a plan to protect threatened plant and animal species. Scientists say that if countries do not take action, 25% of these species could go extinct (be eliminated) by 2100.
What is COP15?
COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and this is its 15th gathering. It is run by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which first met in 1992.
