A new exhibition at the Barnes Foundation, a cultural and educational institution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, takes a look at paintings and sculptures by Amedeo Modigliani, one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. Modigliani Up Close focuses on how he worked, the materials he used, and more.
Modigliani, who was Italian, lived from 1884 until 1920. Many of his portraits are known for a distinct style with long faces, eyes that look blank, and sloping shoulders. The Barnes, which turns 100 this year, has one of the largest Modigliani collections in the world, and additional pieces were borrowed for the show.
