October, when fall leaves turn gold and red, is the most popular time of year to travel a famous road in Virginia called Skyline Drive.
What is Skyline Drive?
It’s the only public road through Shenandoah National Park, which occupies 2,000 acres and is home to black bears, deer, songbirds, and other wildlife. The road runs 105 miles across the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are part of the Appalachian mountain range. Along the drive, there are trailheads, visitor centers, and 75 overlooks with campgrounds. In good weather, it takes about three hours to drive the entire length.
