“Just over a year ago, I was diagnosed with dyscalculia, which affects the way I understand numbers and makes it hard for me to organise information. I have always struggled with maths and even before my diagnosis, my mum, Beth, helped me with numbers. She was a secondary school English teacher for many years, and alongside teaching her own students, she produced creative, visual ways to teach me number bonds and times tables. She stayed up for ages, well into the early hours of the morning, writinglessons at our kitchen table for her students. She was also teaching me so I wasn’t behind at school.
