Protests against Covid-19 restrictions are spreading around the world, inspired by a group of lorry drivers in Canada. The drivers have been protesting against Covid-19 rules that affect them when they cross the border between Canada and the US.
As part of their protests, some drivers blocked Ambassador Bridge, which connects Windsor, in Canada with Detroit in the US. Around 25% of trade between the two countries goes across Ambassador Bridge. The bridge was blocked for six days before police removed the protesters and reopened it on 13 February. Around 4,000 protesters have also gathered in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa.
