On 21 August, 14-year-old Katie McCabe, from Devon, England, completed a challenge to sail around Great Britain.
McCabe arrived back in Exmouth, Devon, after a 52-day journey that started on 30 June. She sailed on an eight-metre-long wooden boat called Falanda. While her father, David, sailed five miles behind her, Katie sailed her boat single-handedly for the entire trip. McCabe has been interested in sailing from a young age, and grew up on her parents’ converted fishing trawler. She wanted to sail across the Atlantic, “but my parents wouldn’t allow me,” McCabe told The Times, “so I thought, ‘Why not go around Britain?’.”
