Britain has many sporting world champions, such as F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, boxer Anthony Joshua and taekwondo fighter Bianca Walkden. Now Tom Stoltman, from Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands, has joined them after powering to the title of World’s Strongest Man.
This famous international competition has 25 athletes test their strength across 12 tough events. It began in 1977, and Geoff Capes became the first British winner in 1983. Mariusz Pudzianowski, from Poland, holds the record for the most wins, triumphing five times between 2002 and 2008.
After finishing second overall in 2020, 27-year-old Stoltman took this year’s title in California, US. The challenges included lifting huge barrels, tossing big metal items high into the air and pushing a steam train.
