The school summer break is a great chance to enjoy time at home, or perhaps on holiday, with friends and family. With the weather usually warmer, it’s also a good time to play sports outside. However, for some young people, not being able to go to school and keep active with school sports and activities is a problem. Their physical wellbeing and mental health (how they think and feel) may suffer.
A group called ukactive, along with sports company Nike, have a programme called Open Doors. It is a scheme where school sports facilities, such as playing fields, halls and courts, are kept open for young people to use during the holidays.
