On 26 March, Bangladesh celebrated 50 years since it declared independence from Pakistan. In the 10 days leading up to the anniversary, people decorated streets and houses with the national flag and enjoyed parades and fireworks displays.
There are millions of Bangladeshi people living all over the world, and they marked the day too. “We celebrate Independence Day by wearing traditional clothes, eating food and dancing,” Misha, aged 10, told the BBC. Misha is one of the half a million people of Bangladeshi background who live in the UK.
