More than 650 young people from around the UK took part in judo’s British School Championships recently. At the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, they competed for awards in their individual categories, and to win points for their schools. The team from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, in Worcester, England, were crowned overall champions after winning two golds and a bronze medal. Tavistock College, from Devon, England, were second, and Darrick Wood School, from London, came third.
The British School Championships take place every year. Each judoka – which is the word for a judo athlete – had to qualify for the competition first or be at a certain judo grade. They competed in their school year division, which ranged from Year 6 to Year 13, and in different…
