An American in Paris (1951)
DVD, iTunes, Prime Video
If you’re a fan of musicals, then the delightful An American in Paris, made in 1951, is 113 minutes well spent. It’s not a full musical, but it’s set to the music of George and Ira Gershwin, and packed with memorable moments and sequences. It stars Gene Kelly – best known for Singin’ in the Rain – and is a showcase for the cast’s incredible talents. Kelly, as lead actor, dancer and choreographer (the designer of the dances), gives further evidence as to why there’s never been another on-screen performer quite like him. Astonishingly, although the film won six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Music and Best Costume Design, Kelly didn’t get one of them.
A LONG WAIT
