On 30 November, former US president George H.W. Bush died at his home in Houston, Texas, aged 94. He served as the country’s 41st president, from 1989 until 1993.
Before he was elected president, Bush trained as a pilot and flew 58 combat missions during the Second World War. On leaving the armed forces, he earned a university degree and began a career in the oil industry, setting up his own company three years later. He was a millionaire by the age of 40. In 1989, after working as vice-president to Ronald Reagan (the country’s 40th president), Bush was elected president.
