A group of six teenagers from east London, known as the Sea Gals, have broken the record to become the youngest female relay team to swim across the English Channel.
Over the last two years, school friends Ruby Greer, Eve Napier, Amelie Noor, Grace Radford, Lucy Sims and Sasha Vinnicombe, all aged 13 and 14, have been preparing for the challenge: to swim from Dover in England to Cap Gris Nez in France, and raise £5,000 for charity along the way.
The girls trained regularly at their community swimming clubs and took part in a number of cold-water swims in Dover to get used to the chilly temperatures, which at this time of year average around 16–18° C. Then, the big day arrived. On 19 July, the Sea Gals began…
