Israel crowned Eurovision champion
On 12 May, Israel was crowned winner of the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest, held in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Of the 26 countries that qualified for the contest, Israel’s entry, a song called Toy, by 25-year-old singer Netta Barzilai, won with 529 points. Barzilai’s quirky performance included a chicken dance. The contest was watched by around 200 million viewers worldwide. The UK’s entry, Storm by SuRie, finished in 24th position with 48 points.
