If you know your way around a globe or atlas, you’re probably aware that there are seven continents (large, continuous masses of land) on our planet: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.
However, earlier this year, it was revealed that scientists believe there is an eighth continent, called Zealandia, deep under the waves of the South Pacific Ocean. Researchers, who have just completed one of the first in-depth surveys of the continent, have now announced that this hidden land mass may have been closer to land level than first thought.
This latest discovery on the underwater continent has the potential to solve some of the biggest questions in history, such as how animals and plants were able to spread out and evolve across the South Pacific.…
