Country music superstar Cody Johnson hosted his first-ever Open roping in Belton, Texas, in October. “The CoJo,” patterned after the George Strait Classic, was part of the five-day Cody Johnson Championship Event. The event also featured a Pro-Am, a #12.5 that paid the champs $80,000 and a #10.5 that paid the winners $70,000.
Produced by BFI owners Ullman Peterson Events, “The CoJo” awarded $65,000 cash plus trophy dually trucks, gooseneck horse trailers, saddles, buckles, custom guitars and more to champs Andrew Ward and Jake Long. But Johnson was even more excited about “the real champion,” who received his inaugural Honorary Champion award: a hand-engraved solid silver and 24-karat gold Clint Orms trophy buckle. This award honors individuals of influence with good character who give back to their community.
