A PLACE TO STAY One of my favourite authors is Jane Austen, and my mum (a retired English teacher) loves her, too. Which meant when I suggested we visit Austen’s former home (above), now a museum, Mum needed little persuasion. It’s in Chawton, Hampshire, so we’d make a weekend of it, discovering a part of the country I didn’t know, as well as finding out more about the life and times of a writer that we both love. It was also a great excuse for a mother-daughter trip, a chance to spend time with my mum, doing something we both enjoy, after a tough couple of years.
