Susan Crawford is much admired for her collections of vintage patterns which have been updated and resized to suit modern knitters. The latest instalment of her A Stitch in Time series is now available for pre-order, and it focuses on colourwork, with 25 projects from the 1920s to the 1950s. When I first saw this knitting pattern I wanted to make it, but when I found out it was worked sideways, I knew it was going to be next on my list. The ‘Marigold Tee’ by Winter’s Weather Knits is knitted sideways - you start at one cuff, knitting the sleeve flat, then stitches are cast on for both the back and front side seams, and you knit towards the middle of the top, shaping the neck. These stitches go on hold while you do the same for the other side, with the two halves being joined together using Kitchener stitch. CREATIVE CABLES The team at The Fibre Co. has teamed up with designer Kay Hopkins to develop a collection of projects which use elegant cables inspired by the iconic Pacific Crest Trail in the western USA.
