Helen Spedding, operations editor It’s my daughter’s 18th birthday soon, and I wanted to knit her a little something to mark the occasion. She’s a big fan of bedsocks, and I’ve long wanted to make Lumi Karmitsa’s ‘Kittycats’, which we featured in Issue 136 and also appeared in Lumi’s first book, Wild Mittens & Unruly Socks. The colourwork motif looks exactly like our own cat, Eddie! I’ve used a couple of yarns from my stash - Sweet Georgia’s Tough Love Sock in a vibrant green, paired with MCN Sock from Chester Wool Co. This is an undyed blend of Merino wool, nylon and cashmere which adds a touch of luxury to the socks - I hope Polly will love them! OUR ‘BRANWEN’ knit-along project, which begins this month, has been designed for us by Kath Andrews. Kath developed her handknit design skills through the City & Guilds programme, and she has been publishing her patterns for the past decade. INSPIRED BY the colours of England’s Lake District, this cowl by Emma Wright features five blocks of different stitch patterns, and combines three shades of The Fibre Co.’s Cumbria yarn. This is a beautifully soft blend of Merino wool, brown Masham wool and mohair, which offers a subtle gleam and a heathered look.
