Folklore-inspired motifs and textiles are making a big impact on the fashion world this season, and Debbie Bliss has brought her knitter’s eye to the trend with her latest collection of designs. Among the projects are two gorgeous patterns for babies. ‘Gisela’ is a round-necked cardigan that’s decorated with colourful floral embroidery; it’s sized for little ones aged nine months to three years. The ‘Jana’ bonnet and mitts set has a heritage look, and also features vintage-style embroidery. For women, there is the ‘Krysta’ jumper, which is worked in an array of intricate stranded colourwork patterns influenced by Russian and Eastern European textiles. CAROL MELDRUM, who designed the ‘Blue Aster’ sweater and hat in this supplement, came to the attention of many knitters through her playful pattern books including Knitted Icons and Knitlympics. CAROL MELDRUM has used a pretty lace rib pattern to add interest to her funnel-neck sweater and matching hat. Designed for a relaxed fit, the sweater has plenty of positive ease.
