Martin Storey’s latest pattern book is aimed at knitters new to cables, but its 10 beautifully traditional designs with a modern twist are sure to appeal to experienced knitters, too! THIS DELICATE triangular shawl is knitted from the top down, and it has a central panel on the back which helps it to sit well around the shoulders. Designed by Anniken Allis, the shawl features a selection of pretty lace patterns. CHEERFUL SOCK DESIGNS Having fallen in love with Ireland during her travels around the country, German designer Mone Dräger decided to create a collection of socks inspired by the Emerald Isle. Her e-book of 10 charming sock patterns encompasses a range of techniques, including cables, lace and colourwork. ‘Dingle’, for example, is decorated with little Fair Isle cottages knitted in a self-striping yarn on a black background. Another colourful design is ‘Fungie’, a textured sock with bands of dolphins worked in stranded colourwork. TUDOR ROSES by Alice Starmore (£24) ALICE STARMORE’S stunning book, Tudor Roses, first came out in 1998; a revised version appeared in 2013, but hardback copies are now hard to find. So it’s good to know that a paperback edition of this pattern book is now available. When creating the designs in her book, Alice was inspired by historical female figures of the Tudor dynasty, from 1485 to 1603, and ranging from Elizabeth Woodville, grandmother of Henry VIII, to Mary Queen of Scots. “THIS HAT features a laurel-leaf design that runs around the brim,” says designer Nathan Taylor. “The leaves then climb up the body of the hat, coming together at the crown.
