When a client wanted to elevate a little-used nook into a tranquil resting area, designer Debbie Mathews LeRoy pulled in cozy seating and natural-inspired details to create an inviting oasis perfect for sipping morning coffee or snuggling with a furry friend. When it comes to sunrooms, “I always recommend creating a space that blurs the lines between the indoors and the outdoors,” Debbie says. Practicality is also key. “I truly believe that you can create a beautiful space that is both functional and comfortable,” she confides.…
Most homeowners would have tried to eliminate any hint of the disco era, but when Lori and Larry White revamped their 1974 town house villa in Hilton Head Island’s picturesque Sea Pines Resort, they made efforts to preserve some of its vintage flavor. They embarked on a full renovation, bringing the aesthetic into the 21st century while infusing it with accents that evoke its history and locale, including a lacquered turtle shell, antique coral, and a rare designer parrot lamp produced the year the home was built. “I was going for upscale beach chic,” says Lori, who scoured secondhand markets and social media sites for pieces with plenty of character. “I wanted it to have an island feel, but not have seashell lamps and seahorses everywhere.” Sea Pines—a community spanning…
When it comes to vacation homes in the Sunshine State, bright beach views, ideal temperatures, and a luxurious sense of style are a given. That’s why, upon acquiring this Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, property from family, the homeowners decided it deserved a refresh fitting of the sunny setting. Hailing from New Jersey but filled with memories from decades of vacations, they enlisted Lisa Michael of Lisa Michael Interiors to revive the home with the intention of spending their retirement in the warmer locale. “My primary creative motivation for this project was to infuse the home with an abundance of character and charm,” Lisa says. Her first step in the project was redesigning the floor plan, relocating the small kitchen to the great room for a more open, functional living space.…
While the beaches of Jacksonville, Florida, are a dreamy destination to while away summer days, one designer’s home is perfectly transformed to be an idyllic refuge year-round. When Caitlyn Miller arrived in the sunny locale, she brought with her a wealth of traditional decorating inspiration discovered amid a childhood in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, and valuable gleanings from studies at the Art Institute of Charlotte and experience working for interior design firm Lucy and Company. As the Millers moved south, Caitlyn joined the creative talents of Phoebe Howard—of the eponymous design brand Mrs. Howard—overseeing projects from New York to Tennessee to Florida. “She really trusted me to spread my wings and put my own spin on things,” Caitlyn says. After nine years, Caitlyn decided to venture out on her own and…
