With autumn’s arrival come a vibrant color palette and warm, cozy textures for home décor. After completing the basement remodel of their Highland, Utah, home, Summer and Scott Dunn were ready to continue their partnership with Remedy Design Firm—along with building company Patterson Homes—to refresh the upstairs. Working closely with Remedy’s senior designer, Katie Phelon, Summer was able to ensure a stunning, seamless design—all while discovering her personal style in the process. “We kind of coined the term ‘Modern Sundance,’” says Katie, describing the homeowner’s newfound aesthetic. The layered look takes clean lines and pairs them with both rustic and vintage inclusions for a space that’s equal parts cozy and contemporary. Mother-daughter art duo Sherl Woods and Lauren Sajjadieh didn’t combine their artistic talents until 2014. And while their paintings found success in art shows and galleries, it wasn’t until 2020, when a dip in demand spurred them to experiment with new media, that they discovered the art form that would spread their work across the Southern United States. “I started with balloons and found out rather quickly that balloons pop,” Sherl says with a laugh, referring to the process by which she first formed their now recognizable concrete bowls. When Marynn and Jeff Udvarhelyi stumbled upon a Cape Cod-style cottage in Temecula, California, they were drawn in by the picturesque yet regionally unexpected façade and sold by the interior layout for equally unique reasons. While the four bedrooms were ideal for the couple and their two daughters, especially the first-floor primary bedroom—something they wanted in the forever home they would grow old in—the rest of the 1989 residence needed thoughtful reconfiguration. When interior designer Audrey Scheck and her husband, Matt, moved from California to Texas, she never expected to find herself in new construction. But in 2020, the Schecks purchased a builder-grade spec home in Austin that they knew would meet their growing family’s needs, and Audrey has since enjoyed the journey of making it their own. “I definitely appreciate all things vintage and charming and never envisioned myself in new construction, but it has been such a fun challenge changing this home and morphing it into something that is really charming to us and that’s reflective of our personal aesthetic,” she says. The Daniels’ move to a historic neighborhood in Alabama presented them with a rare opportunity for the area: an empty lot.
