As a longtime advocate for homeless people, the ‘big issue’ I see in the coming year, unfortunately, is more homelessness in the United States – with only a few glimmers of hope. Approaching the close of 2025, the United States is already experiencing the most acute homelessness crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. According to estimates by the federal government – which unquestionably understate the true scale of the problem – on a nightly basis more than 770,000 Americans are homeless, including 150,000 children. Black and Latino communities are disproportionately affected by homelessness.
