Striding out of the Forbidden City are the would-be architects of the new world order. In the centre there’s Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, with styling influences from Mao, flanked by Putin and Kim Jong Un.
Xi was definitely chairman of the gathering, which included leaders that assembled last week – not all of them elected in the democratic sense – from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, Cuba, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of the Congo, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
