Cook ½ cup beer and ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Bring to the boil. Cook for 12 minutes or until reduced to ½ cupful. Pour mixture over 250g raw mixed nuts in a large heatproof bowl. Toss through ½ tsp table salt and ¼ cayenne pepper (optional). Set aside, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes. Michelle Q When cutting a cake into layers, is there a trick to getting them even? There are some great ways to get beautiful cake layers, but this one is my go-to easy method! First, I use a ruler to measure the side of the cake and find the perfect height to cut it. Then I pierce a toothpick into the side of the cake at the point where I want to cut, and place a few toothpicks around the side of the cake at the same height. I’ve always had an innate compulsion for baking. There’s something about it that just feels comfortable. Family is inspirational in this respect. My grandmother’s kitchen was always stacked with freshly baked treats to serve to anyone who called in. And when our six children came along, what times we had baking together!
