Alice’s smile revealed something sinister going on

Grinning from ear to ear, our three-year-old daughter, Alice, danced around the living room to Pink’s Cover Me in Sunshine – her favourite.
But then my husband, James, noticed something. “Her eye seems to be protruding out of her eye socket,” he said.
When Alice smiled, her right eye closed completely.
We saw her doctor, who recommended she see a specialist ophthalmologist in Brisbane, more than 500km away from our home in Calliope, Qld.
So, in June 2021, I took Alice to the appointment while James stayed with our boys, William, nine, Xander, six, and Henry, 18 months.
“You need to get her to hospital now,” the ophthalmologist said.
There, Alice had an MRI and a biopsy.
