When Disney Lorcana launched last year, many of us were looking on with curiosity. Trading card games based on franchises are certainly not new, but many of us have seen the rise and fall of many a game that relied too heavily on the draw of the existing characters, and not enough on the gameplay, or the community, which inevitably leads to its end. Disney Lorcana represented a fantastic opportunity – a huge universe of differing films, lore, and characters, a chance to appeal to all ages and audience, and being headed by Ravensburger. Following its launch at Gen Con, it’s gone from strength to strength, with multiple sets, new products, a healthy competitive and collector scene, and it’s comfortably made its mark in the industry.
