You just don’t see full-frame mirrorless cameras at entry-level prices. Well, not much, anyway: the only real competition the EOS R8 has is Nikon’s Z5, the more expensive Sony a7C, and Canon’s own (cheaper and older) EOS RP.
Indeed, the RP basically birthed the R8 from its own loins, gifting it the same body genetics; the father, if we’re going to continue this odd train of thought, is the far pricier EOS R6 Mark II, which offers up its sensor and autofocus processor. You don’t get the exact same hardware as the £2,779 R6 II, of course.
