JUST recently, I read that one of the 10 most important items a survivor could carry is a good pair of binoculars. On that list, optical gear actually came in at number eight, sharing VIP status with medical supplies, water, tools and, of course, food.
And it’s not hard to see why binoculars made the list. Unlike a pronghorn antelope whose eyes have a built-in telephoto effect for spotting danger, humans have a hard time discerning the finer details at longer ranges.
