AN ORIGINAL CREATION OF DUSTIN HAVEN, SUICIDAL TOY GRACED THE COVER OF MINI TRUCKIN MAGAZINE IN DECEMBER 2002. Dustin purchased it as a stock ’90 Toyota for $4,000 and transformed it into what you still see today. Beginning with the suspension, Dustin added Chassis Tech drop spindles and a Pete and Jakes chrome four-link. Adjustability was achieved by Viair compressors, 2,500-pound and 2,600-pound airbags and 4-inch body drop. Rounding out the suspension is a set of 18x7 Foose Monterey with 215/35/18. It has a fully painted frame to match the truck’s graphics. Under the hood remains the stock 1990 four-banger bored 40 over. Plenty of attention to detail was applied. TRUCKS OUTSELL CARS IN U.S. FOR FIRST TIME EVER! ACCORDING to Autodata Corp., pickup trucks have begun outselling cars! While it may not seem like a stretch for trucks to be more popular than cars, it’s now official, with pickups beating out cars by more than 17,000 units at the end of the first sales quarter. Bloomberg reports that as recently as five years ago, cars outsold pickup trucks by more than 500,000 units per month, but has since slimmed down its car offerings and bolstered its truck lineups. As of this writing, the manufacturer shutdowns have caused a shortage of inventory on some truck models, causing an upswing in dealer orders for folks who can’t find what they’re looking for on lots. COVID-19 MAY HAVE PUT A DAMPER ON CAR SHOWS SO FAR THIS YEAR, BUT LUCKILY ORANGE BEACH INVASION 2020 MADE IT JUST IN TIME. More than 900 vehicles filled the grounds of The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama, March 13-15. This was only the fourth year of the show and it was packed. With several thousand spectators hitting the venue, it made for an amazing show. Planning a show can be difficult, but Greg Miller, Robbie Bryant and the rest of their crew did an outstanding job. Orange Beach Invasion is a family friendly event that encompasses a huge car show, food (eggrolls, too!), vendors and a synchronized light show on Saturday night. THE TURKEY DRAG IN LONE OAK, TEXAS, TAKES THE EVENT SPOTLIGHT THIS MONTH—A WELL-DESERVED HONOR AFTER 15 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL SHOWS. For its first 10 years, the three-day car, truck and bike show was held at a 12-acre Texas property. By 2015, the Turkey Drag outgrew its original location, so organizers relocated it 25 miles north to Hawkins. The very next year, to better accommodate campers and the growing crowd, they moved the event 55 miles north to Wind Point Park where it has been held ever since.
