TIME AND WEATHER can negatively affect older trucks, necessitating repairs. Body panels tend to rust, and wood bed floors rot from exposure to the elements. Though rust isn’t a big issue on our ’62 GMC, the wood bed floor was barely hanging on. The look of the older wood on this patina-style truck didn’t bother us, but because the wood was also disintegrating, function was becoming a problem. We couldn’t put any substantial weight in the bed without the floor giving out. We knew that replacing the floor would be an involved process, so we put it off for as long as we could. He ordered a custom license plate, “NL SUELO,” which stood for “ en el suelo” in Spanish or “on the floor” in English.
