ON MARCH 15, Chevrolet unveiled the ’16 Chevrolet Colorado Shoreline with a bang. The new truck joins the collection of special editions for Chevrolet trucks for 2016, including the Colorado Z71 Midnight, Colorado Trail Boss, Silverado Realtree and Silverado Special Ops. Designed for the midsize pickup truck market, and with California home to the largest share of that market, it’s obvious how the Shoreline earned its name. To further appeal to its demographic, the Shoreline will be offered on Colorado extended cab models in LT trim, in two- and four-wheel-drive, with blacked-out trim and sparingly used chrome accents to follow California aftermarket trends. IN JULY 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a proposed rule that would prohibit the conversion of emissions-certified vehicles into race cars and make it illegal to sell any emissions-related parts for those cars, contending that such actions should be considered “tampering” of what is forever to be considered a motor vehicle subject to the Clean Air Act. THIS IS ONE of Jeff Volker’s more recent projects, though you might be familiar with his work as it appears on the October 2015 Street Trucks’ cover. This ’68 Chevrolet C-10 originally belonged to Jeff before he sold it to Bill Petyak—ironically, as the C-10 October cover truck was originally Bill’s before Jeff purchased it—to be transformed into the piece of automotive art you see here. This ’68 Chevrolet C-10 houses a 2002 LS-1 engine by Sam Phillabaum Performance that features a GM hot cam as well as ported heads and Billet Specialties front runner.
