It was in the March and April 2024 issues of Steam World where I talked about my many summer Saturday visits to the London area of the West Coast Main Line in 1963. However, I didn’t entirely abandon my first love, the South Western Main Line, that summer.
Despite the withdrawal of the classic prewar classes – the ‘Schools’, the ‘Lord Nelsons’ and the ‘King Arthurs’ – at the end of 1962, there was still lots of variety on this line in 1963.
