Notable for being the first ‘Black Five’ to be rescued from Barry, No. 5379 – as it was numbered when originally built – was allocated from new to Crewe shed. It stayed there for several years before being transferred to Rugby, from where it was transferred to Northampton in November 1948. Renumbered as No. 45379 in British Railways ownership, the ‘5MT’ returned to Rugby in March 1949, remaining there for six years before transferring to Crewe North in May 1956. Five years later, in April 1961, it was reallocated to Bletchley, before returning to 5A in December 1962. Its final allocation was to Willesden, in March…
