6E SHEDCODE Special Another shed with a somewhat nomadic existence in terms of ownership was Wrexham Rhosddu, later coded 6E. It began under the auspices of the Wrexham, Mold & Connah’s Quay Railway (WMCQR), with a simple two-road building being first noted soon after the company began operating on January 1 1866. Located adjacent to the GWR’s Chester-Shrewsbury line, the site rapidly began to expand with first sidings then a turntable, until by 1874 the WMCQR valued it at £1,000 – with a nearby hay stack being valued at £100. As the locomotive fleet grew, so the shed followed, with a maintenance facility being added around 1876. However, the entire shed lost its roof in a November 1877 gale, necessitating costly repairs.
