As this issue of Steam Railway went to press, the distinctive shape of Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Baldwin 2-4-2T No. 762 Lyn was seen for the first time in over 80 years.
On November 22, the 762 Club, the group constructing the replica locomotive, trial-assembled Lyn’s major components, meaning that the L&B Baldwin looks like a complete locomotive for the first time.
Taking shape inside Alan Keef’s locomotive works in Ross-on-Wye, the boiler, smokebox and firebox - along with the chimney, side tanks, cab, footplate and bunker - were trial-fitted to the completed rolling chassis, unveiled for the first time on September 17.
