Three large pathology companies, Ampath, PathCare and Lancet Laboratories, yesterday denied before the Competition Tribunal that they had charged excessive prices for COVID-19 PCR tests and instead asked that the allegations against them should be dropped. During the pandemic, the Competition Tribunal signed agreements with the three pathology firms to lower the price of a PCR test from R850 to R500 following an investigation into the prices by the Competition Commission.
