THE SOUTH African Revenue Services (Sars) has remained adamant that it had not defaulted on paying its electricity bill to the Tshwane Municipality as lights went off due to more than R800 000 arrears incurred at the office it occupies in Pretoria. This comes as the Metro confirmed yesterday that the revenue collector had since paid its arrears amount after it was cut off as part of the “Tshwane Ya Tima” operation aimed at collecting R4 billion a month in arrears revenue. The Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) says its legal battle with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has delayed the printing of ballot papers. Volkswagen has announced an investment of R4 billion for its South African manufacturing plant in the Eastern Cape. Data from the Central Energy Fund indicates that the price of fuel will increase again, by 37c or 38c per litre, in May, the AA says. AA spokesperson Layton Beard said local fuel prices had reached record-high increases over the past three years despite the government not increasing the general fuel levy or Road Accident Fund levy. “Central Energy Fund (CEF) data indicates that unleaded 93 petrol inland in May 2022 cost R21.51 per litre but increased to R23.01 in May 2023. A group of concerned community members of Princess, near Roodepoort, have accused the City of Joburg of wanting to exclude them from the Johannesburg Social Housing Company’s (Joshco) Ekhaya Gardens project which comes with 300 new flats. The project was unveiled by MMC for human settlements Anthea Leitch on Tuesday.
