PARLIAMENT’S portfolio committee on mineral resources has resolved to urgently call the department and the police to come and account on what they have done to stamp out rampant illegal mining in Gauteng and North West provinces. GLENCORE the largest natural re- sources company in the world, reported on Tuesday that its earnings dropped by 60% owing to commodity market imbalances and volatility. In its half-year report for the six months to June, the group said headline earnings decreased by almost 60% to about $4.28 billion (R80.7bn), and revenue fell by 20% to $107.4bn. South Africa recorded at least 207 child marriages in the year 2021, according to statistics released to the African Union special rapporteur, who is currently in the country to monitor and evaluate progress on how South Africa is performing in its ongoing campaign to end child marriages.
