JSE-LISTED South African private schools operator Curro Holdings said yesterday that it expected its earnings for the six months ended June 30, 2023, to increase by up to 45%. Its trading statement for the six months ended June 30, 2023, said headline earnings per share were forecast to rise 26.5%-45.5% year-on-year to 32.3c-37.1c in its results later this month. The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ordered a candidate attorney, Onga Ntozini, to repay the R3.6 million he stole from a client which was paid by Eskom in a settlement. Ntozini was employed by Malebye Motaung Mtembu Attorneys when he hatched a plan to misappropriate funds belonging to a client. The company was mandated to represent Grace Nzimande, during litigation with her former employer Eskom. As a legal representative, Ntozini advised Eskom to settle the action instituted against it in the amount of R3.6m, which the power utility agreed to do. Ntozini then drafted a bogus settlement agreement and directed the utility to pay the money directly to Nzimande’s bank account. A thermal drone was instrumental in locating a toddler who had gone missing in Etete on the Dolphin Coast. IPSS Medical Rescue managing director, Dylan Meyrick, said the 21-month-old toddler was reported missing from a homestead in Etete near Shakaskraal on Monday around 4pm. Meyrick said search and rescue efforts were started, but were unsuccessful. He said the search resumed yesterday morning with SAPS K9 Search and Rescue and the IPSS Search and Rescue division involved. “The toddler was located approximately 1km from his home, with the use of a thermal drone piloted by PACSys,” Meyrick said.
