The SA Revenue Service (SARS) Customs Division has intercepted a truck carrying 440 master boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes, with an estimated total value of R9 million, which were falsely declared as cotton oil cake. Sars Commissioner Edward Kieswetter said the customs officer conducting a random inspection on Saturday became suspicious when the value of the goods declared on the document and the load on the truck did not match. A RESIDENT and homeowner at an upmarket Johannesburg golf estate will no longer be able to call on the Community Scheme Ombud Service to resolve the disputes between her and the homeowners association. The resident landed in hot water with the association for numerous reasons, including feeding feral cats on the estate. The Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, ruled that the law relating to the powers of this ombud did not include the resolution of disputes which are personal in nature. A man was arrested in Limpopo for possession of a pangolin, valued at R150 000, while he was on his way to sell the endangered animal. Spokesperson for the Hawks in Limpopo, Captain Matimba Maluleke, said the 59-year-old “pangolin dealer” was arrested at Gravelotte, near Tzaneen. The operation to nab suspects on Wednesday involved several police units and the Hoedspruit Farmwatch. “The team received a tip-off about a suspect who was allegedly on the way to sell a pangolin in Hoedspruit. Kathmandu: An Australian climber has died on Everest, in the 10th fatality on the world’s highest peak this climbing season. Jason Kennison, 40, died after becoming unwell on Friday.
