Cyclone Freddy is one of the most powerful tropical cyclones documented, as well as one of the deadliest in Africa in years.
It has created unimaginable devastation in Mozambique, Malawi and Madagascar, killing more than 500 people, according to Reuters, including women and children, and displacing over 20 000 households.
Malawi has suffered the brunt of the storm, with 438 killed, according to international reports. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said it was providing immediate lifesaving food assistance by distributing corn-soya blend, a partially pre-cooked fortified food consumed as porridge, to displaced people in Malawi.
