A year or so ago, a journalist, an expert on hairstyles, referred to the “short back and sides” favoured by Afrikaans farmers as “kak” hairstyles, while Peter Bachtis deplores Faf de Klerk’s long hair, believing that it clouds his judgement on the playing field. Absolute twaddle, of course.
Looking back over the years, I can remember great players with long hair – Naas Botha, Percy Montgomery, Rob Louw, Wynand Olivier, Frans Steyn and, later, Victor Matfield and RG Snyman, among others.
