AS WE continue celebrating national Women’s Month in August, it is opportune to reflect how gender equality can contribute to the building of a peaceful global society.
The non-aggressive tendencies in women, who by nature seek co-operative means in solving problems, are becoming more and more appreciated by societies attempting to solve conflicts by peaceful means.
It is the Bahá’í view the belief in, and practice of, the principle of the oneness of humanity – of every race, nation, gender or ethnic background – is one of the prerequisites for world peace. Recognition of the oneness of humanity helps, not only in overcoming various kinds of prejudices, but to go beyond concepts of tolerance, and accepting the equality of all races, nations, ethnic groups and men and women.
