As we celebrate Youth Month, the sacrifice by the young people of South Africa is intertwined with the rich legacy of social justice, advocacy, and the liberation movement.
The 1976 generation epitomises the engaged and socially aware youth, who refused to stay silent in the face of the indignity of an oppressive system.
Their action echoes the words of Frantz Fanon that “each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfil it, or betray it”.
The South African youth is not a mere spectator in the vocalisation and realisation of its destiny.
