A video widely circulated on social networks on Wednesday featuring acts of violence against individuals, triggering ethnic clashes in Abidjan and leaving 10 people injured, has been proven to be fake.
“This afternoon, there were incidents in Abobo, Anyama, Yopougon, as well as in Angre, and in Daloa on Tuesday,” the Minister of Interior and Security, General Vagondo Diomande said on Wednesday on the national broadcaster, adding that these “incidents follow a video circulating on social networks, which features acts of violence against individuals.”
This video was made to appear as if it was showing Ivorian migrants in Niger, but it was later authenticated as having been shot two years ago in Nigeria, an English-speaking country.
