The Imperial TIE fighter set the standard for space combat, while the TIE bomber pummeled targets with its deadly arsenal, the TIE striker patrolled the skies above ground facilities, and the TIE reaper carried troopers to the battlefield. Industrial Light & Magic’s fledgling stop-motion animation department, led by Phil Tippett, were charged with creating the incredibly realistic creature, and they turned to techniques pioneered in the 1933 masterpiece King Kong.
