“It’s rare to have a new main character that has to be designed from scratch.” Warren Fu has made his mark on the short-form video world, from award-winning commercials to award-winning music videos, with some of his clients including such powerhouses as Adidas, PlayStation, Taco Bell, and Samsung. However, his trailblazing career begin in the art department at Industrial Light & Magic on the Star Wars prequels. “When I’d finish working in the shop for the day, I would go into the back room and set up a little video camera to practice with Salacious,” says Tim Rose, the puppeteer who animated Jabba the Hutt’s monkey-lizard sidekick. “I felt that if I was going to be given this opportunity to puppeteer Salacious, I wanted to be really good. I would rehearse by messing around saying things like, ‘Hello out there in TV land! Salacious B. Crumb, here!’ The reason I added the ‘B’ was because of the characters in classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, who all seemed to have three-part names. So, he became ‘Salacious B. Crumb,’ strictly for my own amusement. It just felt like he needed something more.”…

Although Imperial and First Order shuttles did not technically “belong” to individuals, the apparent permanence of their assignments to notable figures were an exception to that rule. Director Orson Krennic traveled in a sleek, angular Delta-class T-3c Imperial shuttle, which he used at his discretion. This specialized ship provided Krennic with unrestricted access to secure facilities, including the Death Star, Eadu’s research station, and Scarif’s shield gate. Kylo Ren’s ominous Upsilon-class command shuttle heralded the approach of Darth Vader’s grandson at soon-to-be battlefields on several occasions, including Takodana and Crait. On arrival at the salt-encrusted planet, Kylo Ren utilized the shuttle as an observation post to command First Order walkers as they attacked the former rebel base where the last vestiges of the Resistance were holed up.…

September 21 saw the return of Cassian Andor, as played by Diego Luna, when the the latest Star Wars live-action television series debuted on Disney+. Andor, the long-awaited prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), is set five years before the events of the movie that saw Cassian help steal the plans to the Death Star from the Empire’s stronghold on Scarif. Zoraida: I read Phase I in chronological order, starting with Light of the Jedi. For me, the highlight was the storyline between Elzar Mann, Avar Kriss, and Stellan Gios. That little love-triangle-that’s-not-really-a-love-triangle, but is. I became deeply invested in that. And Elzar Mann is my favorite character. He is a gentleman and a scholar. I love him so much. As part of his initiation into the Tusken Raider tribe, Boba Fett was gifted with an innocuous-looking lizard that the Tusken chief explained was a guide. The creature launched itself into Fett’s nostril and induced a hallucinatory experience in which Boba saw aspects of his former life—the roiling seascape of Kamino, his armor, and the Sarlacc’s stomach.
